Importance of Quran for an individuals as well as collective lives of Muslims

Introduction

Quran is the holy book that we know was revealed more than 1400 years ago but it has crucial importance for Muslims as well as non-Muslims. Quran is the complete code of life and it is the source that can bring peace and harmony in this world due to its teachings. In this blog post we will find out how the Quran is important for the individual as well as collective lives of Muslims and how we can achieve a peaceful global environment with the help of this book. So let’s start;

Importance of Quran for the morality of individual life:

Quran is a guidance of the pious people and at the start of Surah Al Baqarah, Quran has introduced the prerequisites to get benefits from this book. The first of the prerequisites is that it is a source of guidance for those who believe in the Allah Almighty and then different concepts like the day of  judgment and they attain piety. Quran has time and again explained the codes to live the individual life for example when we look at the different ethics that are suggested only in Surah Al-Hujraat only they can make the individual life perfect. Quran is full of such moral teachings however some of the teachings that can individually deduce from Surah Al-Hujraat are following;

Investigate before action:

Allah Almighty says in Surah Al-Hujraat إِن جَاءكُمْ فَاسِقٌ بِنَبَأٍ فَتَبَيَّنُواthat means when evil-doer comes with some news a person should investigate the authenticity of that news and then they should act. This practice will help the individual to think before every action and this will save society as well.

Quran the guide for harmony and peace:

According to the famous Hadith in the “At-Tirmidhi” when a person recites a holy Quran then this person gets 10 rewards or Hashanah in normal daily routine. According to the other saying of the Holy Prophet (peace and blessing be upon him), all the rewards are multiplied seventy times so we can understand from this saying that the reward of reciting the Quran will also be doubled. So the first benefit of reciting the complete Quran is that you can get much more reward for this recitation than that of normal life however if you are among those who feel struggling and recites Quran with difficulty this reward will be further multiplied as well. According to the Hadith that is quoted by both Bukhari and Muslim when a person recites Quran precisely, beautifully, and smoothly then he will get the company of noble and obedient angels however a person who is stumbling and find difficulty during the recitation of Quranic verses then he will get a double reward. So if you are among those who are feeling difficulty in reciting Quran and you are among the learners then you can imagine how much reward you can gain from the recitation of the Holy Quran especially during the Holy month of Ramadan.

Do not mock anyone:

Quran has clearly explained that “لَآ يَسْخَرْ قَومٌ ” which means a person should not mock any nation or society because according to Quran we do not know the actual status of any nation in front of Allah Almighty. In the age of technical revolution when negative use of social media platforms can trigger different situations to mock any other society but Quran guides Muslims to stop mocking any nation.

Do not defame nor call through insulting nicknames:

Quran has explained the moralities of any individual person and says “وَلَآ تَلْمِزُوا أنفُسَكُمْ وَلَآ تَنَابَزُوا بِالْألْقَابِ” which means that do not defame nor call one another through insulting nicknames. These are the moral grounds that are set for any individual that when you are living life according to the Quran then you will have to follow these rules so these concepts can make society peaceful and make the society full of harmony and peace.

Avoid negative Assumptions:

Quran teaches us to avoid negative assumptions about other people and in the same chapter, Allah Almighty says “ٱجْتَنِبُوا۟ كَثِيرًۭا مِّنَ ٱلظَّنِّ which means to avoid negative assumptions. Sometimes a person assumes negative things about others and these assumptions are often untrue and leads towards negativity in any society, so the Quran wants a society where individuals can live without these negativities.

Avoid backbiting and spying on one another:

Quran discourages people about backbiting and spying on one another and directs the message to its followers that وَلَا تَجَسَّسُوا۟ وَلَا يَغْتَب بَّعْضُكُم بَعْضًا which means “And don’t spy and backbite each other.” Many times a person starts spying and backbiting which leads to the negativity in the society and individuals cannot survive peacefully in that society so Quran wants a peaceful environment that can lead toward unity in the society so Quran demands a person to leave the negative intentions and behaviors aside.

No one is superior due to their family or tribe:

Some individuals start bragging about their family connections and consider themselves superior to others but Islam condemns such behavior and directs that “ إِنَّ أَكْرَمَكُمْ عِندَ ٱللَّهِ أَتْقَىٰكُمْ which means most noble among you is the most righteous one. So the Quran sets the new criterion that one that is pious in front of Allah Almighty will be superior so all the discriminations the basis of family clans and nations are negated here. The world is talking and still struggling for equality nowadays but Quran is the book that gave the roadmap more than 1400 years ago that everyone is equal.

These were some of the messages from just one chapter of the Holy Quran “Surah Al Hujraat” and Quran is full of such moral teachings. The best way to achieve perfection on moral grounds is to learn Quran and then understand the different chapters and verses so we can apply these practices in our life. As we have learned that Quran is the book which guides us not only to individual life but also for our collective lives as well so let’s find out how we can apply Quran in our collective lives to achieve peace and stability.

Quran as the solution for our collective lives:

The Quran is guiding humanity towards a system that is not only peaceful but it is the only solution for all the postmodern problems. No matter how a genius human is but his rules and assumptions will lead toward a system that will be full of flaws however Quran and Islam teach us about the system that is the last solution for the survival of humanity. Following are the areas that we will discuss Quran and our collective lives;

Quran for the social system of our collective lives:

The Quran has devised a social system that is full of justice and that leads toward harmony in society and everyone enjoys equal rights. Quran has clear regulations about our social institutions, for example, Quran directs how we will behave to maintain our family institutions.  When we understand the philosophy behind these guidelines then it is easy to understand how these directions are blessing for us every age for example if we look at the family institution according to the Quran then we can find out how weak family systems lead toward chaos and how a strong family makes a strong nation.

Quran for the economic system of our collective lives:

Quran has suggested several important directions for our economic system of the world, for example, Quran has declared an interest in the war with God. This is because the exploitation of humanity can be seen in this interest-based economical system so Quran suggests a system that is a win-win situation for every stratum of the society. In the present economic model, we can observe a lot of exploitation of the poor class so Quran suggests a system in which there are different means to help poor class for example through Zakat and “Ushr” we can protect the society from these exploitations. So Quran is suggesting the economic system for our collective lives that is interest-free and that is based on charity and obligations such as Zakat so this leads toward justice and harmony.

Quran for the political and judicial system of our life:

Quran has explained the guidelines for our political and judicial system and we can take guidelines that can make our society a role model. For example, when we observe the political system the Quran has mentioned “ وَأَمْرُهُمْ شُورَىٰ بَيْنَهُمْ that means all the state affairs will be through the proper consultation. Similarly when we look at the judicial system then we can observe that Quran has explained the judicial directions several times for example when we look at the punishments of robbery, killings, and fornication and this judicial system is not only about punishments. Quran first all trains society toward a peaceful system and then devises punishments for those who corrupt the social system. Quran declares that everyone is equal before the law and judiciary must make the decisions based on merit and this meritocracy leads toward a peaceful society that is the solution for contemporary disillusionment and destruction.
